Quinceañera
A Word from our pastor
Pastor Aaron Smith shares what a Quinceañera means at Grace Lutheran — and why celebrating this milestone within the life of the Church is so meaningful.
How to Schedule Your Quinceañera
Planning a Quinceañera takes time, and we want to make the process as smooth and meaningful as possible. Here is what to expect.
1. Submit the Request Form
Complete the Quinceañera Request Form below. This gives Pastor Smith the information he needs to reach out, check calendar availability, and begin planning with your family.
2. Meet with Pastor Smith
Pastor will schedule a meeting with the young woman and her family — in person or by phone — to get to know her, discuss the service, and talk through the elements your family would like to include.
3. Plan the Service
Together with Pastor Smith, you will finalize the order of service, Scripture readings, music, traditional elements, and any other details. The church office will be available to help with logistics as the date approaches.
4. Celebrate Her
On the day of her Quinceañera, your daughter will be surrounded by her family, her court, and the congregation of Grace Lutheran — all gathered to give thanks for her life and to speak God’s blessing over her future.

What Is a Quinceañera?
A Quinceañera is not simply a birthday party. It is a declaration — that a young woman’s life belongs to God, that her family gives thanks for fifteen years of his faithfulness, and that she steps into young adulthood not alone, but held by her Lord in her baptism.
At Grace Lutheran, a Quinceañera is celebrated as an affirmation of baptism. The party that follows is a joy. But the service that precedes it seeks God’s truth at an important moment of a young woman’s life. At this service, a young woman will stand before God and His called pastor to affirm baptismal truth and acknowledge the Lord for her future.
We are honored to celebrate this milestone with your family. It is exactly the kind of moment the Church exists for.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” — Proverbs 31:25
What This Day Is Really About
Gratitude for God’s Faithfulness Fifteen years of life are fifteen years of God’s provision, protection, and love. The Quinceañera is first and foremost a remembrance of God’s gifts in Holy Baptism – forgiveness, rescue, and salvation; then she is called to seek God’s will and wisdom for her future.
A Public Commitment A young woman does not drift into faithful adulthood — she is called into it. The Quinceañera service gives her the opportunity to acknowledge God and His blessings publicly, surrounded by those who love and care for her.
The Blessing of the Church God works through his people. When the congregation gathers to pray over a young woman on this day, those prayers are real and they matter. She leaves the service having been blessed not just by her family, but by the word of Christ.
A Foundation for What Comes Next The world will tell a young woman many things about who she is and what she is worth. The Quinceañera answers those voices before they get louder — with the truth that she is known, loved, and claimed by God.
What We Believe About the Quinceañera
We celebrate the Quinceañera as a meaningful religious milestone rooted in the Christian baptism — not as a sacrament, but as a service of thanksgiving, acknowledgement, and blessing.
The tradition of the Quinceañera has deep roots in the faith of Hispanic and Latino families, and Grace Lutheran is glad to honor that tradition within the context of Lutheran worship. The service will be distinctly Christian — grounded in Scripture, shaped by prayer, and centered on the God who has been faithful to this young woman since before she was born.
We believe the Church should be present at the significant moments of a family’s life. A fifteenth birthday, marked with this kind of intentionality and faith, is exactly that kind of moment.
“Christ purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness.” — Martin Luther, Small Catechism
The Service The Quinceañera service at Grace Lutheran will include Scripture readings, prayer, a message from Pastor Smith, and a blessing over the young woman by her parents.

Frequently asked questions
Does my daughter need to be a member of Grace Lutheran to have her Quinceañera here?
Not necessarily. Pastor Smith welcomes families who are not currently members of our congregation. Please reach out through the request form and he will be in touch to talk through your situation.
Can part of the service be in Spanish?
Yes. Please let us know when you submit your request form, and we will do our best to incorporate Spanish into the service in a way that feels meaningful and natural for your family.
What does the service include?
The Quinceañera service at Grace Lutheran is conducted as a service in God’s Church. It will include an invocation, Scripture, a message from Pastor Smith, and a blessing. Traditional Quinceañera elements may be incorporated, and the full order of service will be discussed and finalized during your planning meetings with Pastor Smith.
How long is the service?
The service typically runs between 45 minutes and one hour, depending on the elements included.
Is there a rehearsal?
Yes, and it is strongly encouraged. A rehearsal will be scheduled in advance of the celebration day to ensure everything runs smoothly and your daughter feels comfortable and prepared.
Can my daughter's court of honor participate in the service?
Yes. Her chambelanes and damas are welcome to participate. Coordinator details and logistics for the court will be discussed during your planning meetings and rehearsal.
How far in advance should we contact the church?
As early as possible. Popular dates fill quickly and planning takes time. We encourage families to reach out at least six months in advance, though we will always do our best to work with your timeline.
Can we have the reception at the church?
Please contact the church office to discuss fellowship hall availability. Availability will depend on the date and the existing church calendar.
Does my daughter need to be baptized to have her Quinceañera at Grace Lutheran?
Yes. If she has not been baptized, baptismal instruction and a baptism need to be completed before planning for the Quinceañera.
What if my daughter is nervous about standing up in front of people?
That is completely understandable. The rehearsal will help her feel comfortable with the space and the order of the service. Pastor Smith will also take time to meet with her personally so she feels prepared and at ease on the day.
Can my daughter invite friends who are not members of the church?
Absolutely. Family and friends are warmly welcome to attend the service.
Is there a fee for the Quinceañera service?
Please contact the church office for information on any fees or suggested contributions associated with facility use and pastoral services. For families who are not currently members of Grace Lutheran, a donation is requested to help us continue offering these services to families in our community for years to come.
Can we take photos and video during the service?
Yes, and we encourage it. We ask only that photographers and videographers coordinate with Pastor Smith in advance and be mindful of the worship setting during the service.
What should my daughter wear?
The traditional Quinceañera gown is absolutely appropriate and welcomed. There is no requirement beyond dressing in a manner fitting for a Christian worship service — which the Quinceañera gown certainly is.
Are decorations allowed in the sanctuary?
Yes. Decorations are welcome within the guidelines provided by the church office. Please coordinate all floral arrangements, candles, and décor details with the church office as your date approaches.
